Zeds Real Fruit Ice Cream
Real fruit blended into the soft serve to order: pick a base, pick whatever fruit is in that day.1
Why go
A Portland transplant doing New Zealand-style soft serve, and every cup is built in front of you. You pick a base, vanilla or a non-dairy option, then pick from whatever fruit they have that day, and they blend it together and finish it with drizzles and toppings. Nicolai McCrary at The Infatuation called the result something that at least helps you feel like you're eating something semi-healthy
, which is the honest version of the fruit soft serve pitch. The specials board goes past base-plus-fruit: his example was a strawberry paleta with chamoy and tajin.1 He wrote that in May 2022, so read it for the format and not for today's board.
Two shops trade under the name. Harvey Street in East Austin has been inspected five times since September 2023 at 98, 90, 96, 95 and 89; Exposition Boulevard in Tarrytown twice, at 94 and 88. Every one of those clears the city's failing line of 70.2 The review is written to Harvey Street, and I haven't found anything written on the Exposition shop.
Order this / avoid
- Build it, do not order it. Base first (vanilla or the non-dairy option), then whatever fruit is on that day, blended and topped.1
- Check the specials board before defaulting to fruit-plus-vanilla. The one on the record is a strawberry paleta with chamoy and tajin.1
- No rating exists. The Infatuation states it does not score dessert shops, so the absence of a number is that policy at work.
What locals & experts say
- Nicolai McCrary, The Infatuation Austin, 25 May 2022:
you start with a base (vanilla or a non-dairy option), then choose from whatever fruits they have. It all gets blended together and topped with various drizzles and toppings
.1 - It is on his ice cream guide. The same outlet lists the Harvey Street shop in The Best Ice Cream & Frozen Treats In Austin.4
Good to know
- Two shops: 1814 Harvey St in 78702 and 2727 Exposition Blvd Ste 128 in 78703. They hold separate permits and separate scores.2
- Hygiene: Harvey Street scored 89 on 17 April 2026, its lowest of five; Exposition scored 88 on 18 March 2026 after a 94 in November 2025. Both are passes on a scale where 70 is the line.2
Verdict
could-visit — A Portland transplant doing New Zealand-style soft serve at two Austin shops, one on Harvey Street in East Austin and one on Exposition in Tarrytown, with a clean inspection record at both. The format is the draw: you pick a base, vanilla or non-dairy, then the day's fruit, and it is blended to order, with a specials board that has run a strawberry paleta with chamoy and tajin. The Infatuation reviewed it in May 2022 and put it on the city ice cream guide, but did not score it, because the outlet does not rate dessert shops. Jeff's row does not say which shop he saved and the pin is too coarse to settle it, so treat this as the brand. It sits here rather than higher because the only bylined read is four years old and describes Harvey Street only.
