Mikkeller Bangkok
Mikkel Borg Bjergso's Copenhagen nomad-brewing brand opened its first bar in Asia in 2014 inside a 1950s Thai residence on an Ekkamai sub-soi, and twelve years later the 30 taps are still pouring in the same garden house, closure rumors notwithstanding.
Why go
The room ran long enough to collect real history: chef Dan Bark, ex-Grace in Chicago under Curtis Duffy, cooked Upstairs at Mikkeller to a Michelin star in the 2018 and 2019 Bangkok guides before moving the operation to Cadence in 2020. The bar below kept doing its one thing, Mikkeller and guest rarities across 30 taps with a cold kitchen and garden barbecue nights, and took BK Magazine's B.A.D. Award for Best Beer Bar in 2023 (per Bangkok Beer Guide). It is still adding, not fading: a weekend brunch with Moohanakorn BBQ started April 2026, and a monthly running club leaves from the bar on first Saturdays.
Order this / avoid
- Order: whatever is rare on the taps; the fresh, taproom-only Mikkeller releases are the reason to make the trip, and the garden is the place to drink them. Weekend afternoons the kitchen runs brunch from 10am.
- Avoid: planning dinner around the old star. Upstairs closed; Bark's one-star room is now Cadence, on Soi Pridi Banomyong 25, and needs its own booking.
What locals & experts say

Set in a modern-meets-rustic house, this bar of Danish origin serves some of Bangkok's most interesting beers.
3 - Time Out Bangkok (2024):
Set in an old Thai house dating from the 50s, this Mikkeller location has a stylish, elegant atmosphere with that special, uniquely Nordic feel.
2 - BK Magazine (2025):
it's very much worth a visit for just the beer lovers too,
on the 15 best beer bars list, June 2025.4
Good to know
- Timing: Mon-Fri 5pm to midnight, weekends from 11am (Time Out, 2024); brunch 10am-2pm Sat-Sun since April 2026. Re-confirm on Instagram, the venue's own site skips hours.
- Getting there: Ekamai Soi 10, Yaek 2, a 20-minute walk or short ride from BTS Ekkamai; it looks like a private house.
- Budget: expect import pricing; the good pours have run B300-plus since the opening years.
Verdict
should-visit — The first Mikkeller bar in Asia, twelve years running in a 1950s garden house on an Ekkamai sub-soi, with 30 taps that still land releases nothing else in Bangkok pours and a 2023 B.A.D. Best Beer Bar win to show the local press agrees. The brand is global; the setting is not replicable, and that combination is worth the detour.
