3 Texans Winery and Vineyard

A mother and her daughters put 4,000 vines in the ground off Highway 36 in 2009, Malbec and Cabernet and Tempranillo, and have added a thousand more since.1

Why go

Kim Langston's own line for the place is short: A Mom and her daughters sharing the love of wine.1 They built a 3,600 square foot limestone tasting room with a side patio looking out over the block, so the tasting happens in sight of the fruit.1 Two labels are new, a Blush and a Texas High Plains Semi Sweet Viognier, and the range covers sparkling, sweet and dry alongside a white-wine apple cider and frozen wine Bellinis.1 Something is on most weekends: Music Bingo, a boozy book exchange, yoga in the vineyard, goat yoga in October.1

Order this / avoid

  • Order: the five-wine tasting at $20, which is the cheapest way through the range. Glasses run $8 to $11.1
  • Order: a charcuterie plate with it. They come in three sizes, and the kitchen also does hummus, chips and homemade salsa.1
  • Avoid: Monday and Tuesday. They are closed both days.1

Good to know

  • Timing: Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday noon to 7pm, Friday noon to 9pm.1
  • The grape stomp is the 12th of September, its sixth year, ticketed separately for wine club members and everyone else.1
  • It is out of town, off Highway 36 toward Moffat, on a farm-to-market road.1
  • Bring nothing to drink. The winery permit bars outside beer and alcohol, and the whole site is smoke free, vineyard included.1
  • Two winery dogs, Gabby and Luna, come with the tasting room. Kids are welcome if you watch them.1

Verdict

could-visit — Seventeen years in the ground is the longest run of any vineyard in this batch, and starting with Malbec in 2009 was a real bet on what Bell County soil would do. The limestone tasting room and the patio over the block mean somebody built this for sitting down. No tasting note has been established for these wines, so the farming record places it and the glass is still an open question.

Order

  • The five-wine tasting, $20
  • The Texas High Plains Semi Sweet Viognier, one of two newer labels
  • The grape stomp, which runs in September
