Mister Charles
The room is the 1912 Highland Park Soda Fountain with 38-foot ceilings over it, and the kitchen finishes a Dover sole at your table. The Infatuation scored it 8.6 in April 2026.
Why go
Duro Hospitality took a landmarked soda fountain on Knox Street and put a French-Italian menu under 38 feet of ceiling.4 The MICHELIN inspector reads the format as deliberate: showy tableside presentations like Dover sole with lobster beurre blanc, or a Texas wagyu beef Wellington,
with the baked Alaska as a dramatic grace note.
2 Kevin Gray puts the cooking above the spectacle: Mister Charles is one of the city's glitziest restaurants, but most importantly it's also one of the best for fine-dining.
1 He describes the menu as Italian first with French edges and some travel behind it, which shows up as tandoori-spiced swordfish sitting near a buttery New York strip.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the caviar and egg salad on toasted brioche from the canapé list. Gray:
The creamy egg pairs perfectly with the soft, chewy bread, and peppery chives tame the rich flavors.
1 - Order: the little gem caesar,
punchy with capers and anchovies,
which Gray calls one of his favorites in the city.1 - Order: the spicy lumache arrabbiata. Gray:
Too many arrabbiata pastas are just mildly miffed, but this one's truly angry, and we love that about it.
1 - Order: the whole red snapper milanese if there are two of you. The breading
audibly crackles,
and it comes with a chunky tzatziki.1 - Avoid: budgeting like it is a normal dinner. Gray's own framing is that
dining here is expensive and over-the-top,
and the guide puts it in its top price band.1

Verdict
should-visit — Kevin Gray scored it 8.6 and called the caesar one of his favorites in Dallas, and the MICHELIN inspector describes the same kitchen finishing a Dover sole at the table and building a Wellington off Texas wagyu. This is a room built for spectacle that also cooks, and Gray's line about the arrabbiata says somebody in that kitchen has a point of view about heat. Order the caesar and the lumache arrabbiata, and expect the bill of a big night.
