UMI Japanese Cuisine
There are two UMI premises in Edinburgh with separate register records, so the hygiene rating you look up by name may not be the branch you are standing outside.1
Why go
This is the Chapel Street room in the Southside, the older of the two registrations.1 Nobody has written about the cooking, so this page names no dish and no price.
Good to know
- Hours: nobody publishes them, so check before you go.
- Getting there: 12-14 Chapel Street, in the Southside.
- Hygiene: Food Hygiene Information Scheme Pass, inspected 25 April 2023, FHRSID 1570223. Thirty-nine months old, well past the eighteen-month bound, so it is disclosed with its age.1
- Not to be confused: UMI Japanese Cuisine at 6 Shandwick Place is a separate premises, FHRSID 1854374, with a Pass from 14 October 2025. That date does not apply here.2
- Also on the street: The Africo Wrap Place at 4 Chapel Street holds an Improvement Required. Different operator.
Verdict
could-visit — A Japanese restaurant on Chapel Street in the Southside, and almost nothing about it is on the record. There are two UMI premises in the city, this one and a newer one at 6 Shandwick Place, each with its own registration and its own inspection, so a hygiene rating looked up by name will not reliably be the branch you are standing outside. Chapel Street's own pass is from April 2023, over three years old. No approved Edinburgh outlet covers either room, so there is no dish, no price and no description here rather than an invented one. The tier is a statement about the evidence, not about the cooking.
