Frank's Pizza & Subs
The room seats about twelve. Bookings open only on the day you want to eat. In January 2026 GlasgowWorld ranked its pie the best New York-style pizza in the city.
Why go
Frank's opened on Claremont Street. It went viral for the New York style. Battlefield, Dennistoun and Uddingston followed, plus two Wunderbar residencies (GlasgowWorld). The pie is a large hand-tossed thin crust, crisp but still pliable enough to fold. That fold is the test of whether a kitchen has the dough right. The kitchen finishes every pie with Grana Padano rather than leaving it at mozzarella (operator's menu). The sides get the same attention. The kitchen brines the chicken tenders, batters them, then fries them in the house buffalo sauce (GlasgowWorld). It sits a few minutes from the OVO Hydro, which is most of its evening trade.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the 14-inch pepperoni at £15.50 or the margherita at £14 if you want to judge the crust honestly, then the chicken tenders and the mozzarella sticks. Sausage and peppers at £16.50 is the most New York thing on the list.
- Avoid: a pizza each. Three people ordered two and
left with nearly a whole pizza boxed up
2. Also skip the idea of a group dinner here. Do not come looking for the subs the name promises, because the menu is pies and sides.
What locals & experts say
- GlasgowWorld (Declan McConville, January 2026), ranked first of nine:
They went wildly viral for their New York Pizza, but they've kept the success going thanks to the quality of their pies and varied sides menu.
1 - GlasgowWorld (Declan McConville, December 2024), on the pizza itself:
The pizza was crispy and folded perfectly with every bite being a taste sensation.
2 - Same writer, on the constraint:
Frank's is a cosy little joint where you can only book tables on the day you are going in. They have space to roughly sit twelve people meaning you have to be in sharp to book a table.
2 - Gap worth stating: both of those are the same byline at the same outlet. No other outlet has written about Frank's, and no chef has been recorded sending anyone here.
Good to know
- Booking: same-day only, and twelve seats. Book in the morning for that evening.
- Timing: a room already filling at 4.30pm on a gig night. Treat it as a get-there-early proposition.
- Other ways in: Frank's runs the kitchen at Wunderbar in the city centre and Wunderbar West on Dumbarton Road, and delivers through Deliveroo. The pizza is reachable without the twelve-seat lottery.
- Price: £14 to £16.50 for a 14-inch pie that feeds two, sides £5.50 to £8.60. Those are the delivery-kitchen prices; in-shop may differ.
- Hygiene, read carefully: the Claremont Street premises reads Awaiting Inspection as of November 2025, so no rating is in force there. Both Wunderbar sites hold a Pass, the West End one inspected 18 July 2026. The Dennistoun branch at 352 Duke Street holds an Improvement Required rating from 8 July 2026. That is the failing tier of the Scottish scheme. Do not treat the branches as interchangeable.
Verdict
could-visit — Twelve seats, four-day-a-week New York pies finished with Grana Padano, and a local paper ranking it the best New York-style pizza in the city in January 2026 after it went viral for the style. The sides are not an afterthought either: the tenders are brined before they are battered and fried in the house buffalo sauce, which is more process than a pizza shop owes you. What keeps it off a detour verdict is that all the praise comes from one writer at one outlet, and the pinned premises currently has no hygiene rating in force while a sibling branch is sitting on a failing one. Go if you are eating before something at the Hydro and you booked that morning.
