Ga Ga Kitchen + Bar
GaGa took a Bib Gourmand in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide and kept it in 2026, which is the clearest sign the kitchen held together after Julie Lin stepped down as head chef in August 2025.
Why go
Lin opened the room on Dumbarton Road in 2021 after Julie's Kopitiam on the south side, cooking the Malaysian side of her upbringing for a Scottish city, and Netflix filmed there for Somebody Feed Phil (Glasgow World). She left the kitchen and the directorship in August 2025 for television and consultancy work, and the restaurant kept trading (Glasgow World). Michelin's inspectors describe the food as Malaysian-inspired and name the fried chicken with Sichuan hot sauce and orange zest as the highlight (Scotsman). The bar runs alongside as an equal partner, which is unusual for a Bib Gourmand kitchen.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Taiwanese fried chicken, dressed in Sichuan hot sauce and orange zest. Then the breakfast nasi goreng, which The Skinny said
has nostril-turning levels of fish sauce and umami goodness,
and the chop suey aubergine, whichtastes fantastic, great texture, brilliant balance of sweet and savoury
2. Smacked cucumbers to cut through it, and one of the cocktails. - Avoid: the sweetcorn fritters, which the same review found "offer a good bite but without a whole lot else."

Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "Former julie lin resto. Featured on recent Netflix Somebody Feed Phil. Not quite as hot as it used to be."
- On his second pin for the room, saved as "Ga Ga": "Famous chef Julie Lin does a take on Malaysian street food. Features on Netflix for Somebody Feed Phil. I don't get a chance to visit often given its location."
Verdict
should-visit — A Bib Gourmand in the 2025 Guide and held again in 2026, for Malaysian and wider Southeast Asian cooking at Partick prices, with a cocktail list good enough that The Skinny argued the bar carries the room. Julie Lin built it out of her own Malaysian and Scottish upbringing after Julie's Kopitiam, and Netflix put it on television, but she stepped down as head chef and director in August 2025, so the pedigree in Jeff's note is now history rather than the current kitchen. The award survived the handover, which is the strongest available evidence that the cooking did. Go for the fried chicken with Sichuan hot sauce and orange zest, the dish Michelin singles out, and check who is cooking before you make a special trip.
