MacTassos
A vertical spit is the right machine for a park kiosk: the stack self-bastes as it turns, the outer face crisps under the burner, and the cook shaves only what has already browned, so the meat that reaches the pita is the part that just came off the heat.
Why go
A family-run Greek street food business trading in Glasgow since 2017, now on three sites, of which the one on this page is the stand inside Kelvingrove Park, near the entrance on the art gallery side (venue). The build is the Athens standard rather than a British interpretation: warm pita, tzatziki, salad and chips with the meat, in chicken, pork, mixed, halloumi or falafel. Pork is the traditional cut for gyros and the one to judge them on. Glasgow World's ranked list of the city's Greek restaurants carries the business as best known for their outstanding gyros
and calls the park kiosk a student fixture (GlasgowWorld). All three Glasgow units hold a Pass on the food hygiene register.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the pork gyros, wrapped, and eat it walking. If you want to sit, take a gyros plate and halloumi fries instead, which is the same food unwrapped and easier to share.
- Avoid: planning on it in the rain or on a Monday. The stand is closed Mondays and the venue states plainly that
Opening times may vary depending on holidays, weather or park activity

Verdict
could-visit — Go if you are already at Kelvingrove, which is exactly how Jeff uses it. A family-run Greek stand trading in Glasgow since 2017, now on three sites, doing gyros in warm pita with tzatziki, salad and chips at street-food prices, and Glasgow World's ranked Greek list calls the family business 'best known for their outstanding gyros'. It is a kiosk with a five o'clock close and a weather caveat, no critic has assessed the cooking, and there is nothing here to plan a day around beyond the park itself.
