Beer + Burger
Twenty keg lines on a King's Cross corner, and on the day they were read the board carried The Kernel, two Verdants, Pressure Drop, Lost & Grounded, Vault City, Gravity Well, Omnipollo and a Westmalle (Untappd).
Why go
The buying is the argument. Beer + Burger was set up in 2016 to champion independent brewers, and the board is the evidence. Eighteen distinct breweries across twenty taps, most of them UK independents, with pints from six pounds seventy to eight twenty and thirds poured on the strong lines. Warpigs' Big Drunk Baby at nine percent comes as a third for six ten.
Three of the twenty lines are alcohol-free, and they are chosen with the same care as the rest: a Verdant NA IPA, a Hammerton pale, a Wiper & True lager. Northern Monk has brewed a customer collaboration pale ale with them.
There is no cask. CAMRA's North London branch puts it in its own structured field, Cask Ale not available
, and describes the place as part of the Beer & Burger chain with the usual emphasis on craft keg on tap with a good range of UK and imported canned and bottled beer
2.
The food came with five burgers at launch, plain, cheese, bacon, chicken and vegan, plus a guest burger that changes, mac balls, deep-fried jalapeños, halloumi fries and Seoul wings (Hot Dinners).
The room is a glass corner with neon in it, counter seating along a long bar, an open kitchen at the end and a small terrace. This was the third of the stores, after Willesden and Dalston, and there are four now.
Order this / avoid
- Order: whatever is on from The Kernel, Verdant or Pressure Drop. A third of the Warpigs double IPA. The cheeseburger, or the guest burger if it looks better. Mac balls and Seoul wings. One of the alcohol-free taps if you are not drinking, because they are real ones.
- Avoid: coming for cask, since there is none. Expecting quiet, on a glass corner with neon and counter seats. Assuming the taps are where you left them.
What locals & experts say
- CAMRA, North London branch, on the room:
On a corner location with floor to ceiling glass walls + loads of neon shining proudly. Modern light wooden seating spread out along the long bar with the open kitchen at the end. Not surprisingly, the food is burgers!
Their structured field is the useful correction to any pub listing:Cask Ale not available.
2 - Hot Dinners, at the opening in January 2019:
There are five burgers on the list, plain, cheese, bacon, chicken and vegan as well as a regularly changing guest burger... There will be 20 beers on tap and more in the fridges. It's all counter seating too, so you can easily pop in for a quick burger and brew.
3 - The tap list, read on 1 August 2026, which is the closest thing to a verdict anyone can offer: Lost & Grounded Keller Pils, Pillars Haus Lager, Pressure Drop Pale Fire, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, two from Verdant, Gravity Well, Omnipollo, Vault City, The Kernel, Umbrella London, two from Warpigs, Westmalle Duo, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, and three alcohol-free.1
- No independent verdict exists. No beer writer or critic has written on this address and no chef or bartender has picked it. What holds this entry up is a buying operation anyone can audit line by line.
Good to know
- Where: 1A Arthouse, 1 York Way, N1C 4AS, on the corner opposite the station.
- Timing: noon to 11pm Monday to Saturday, noon to 10.30pm Sunday.
- Booking: walk-in, counter seating, and a terrace outside.
- The beer: twenty keg taps and hundreds of cans in the fridges. No cask.
- Diet: a vegan burger has been one of the five since opening, on the venue's own launch menu.
- Paying: CAMRA's February 2022 survey recorded card only and an app scheme giving a token per ten pounds and ten pounds back per ten tokens. Untappd's newer listing includes cash, so the card-only rule may have lapsed.
- Sites: four under this name, and the register uses a different company name for each. This page is the King's Cross store. Willesden is 88 Walm Lane NW2 4QY, Dalston is 464 Kingsland Road E8 4AE, and the venue also names a Walthamstow store that could not be matched to a hygiene registration.
- Hygiene: FSA rating 4 for Beer And Burger KX Ltd, Camden, inspected 5 May 2026, FHRSID 1157875. Both siblings hold 5s, and those belong to them.6
Verdict
could-visit — Go if you are passing King's Cross and want a good pint with something in your hand. Twenty keg lines, and the board on 1 August 2026 carried The Kernel, two from Verdant, Pressure Drop, Lost and Grounded, Vault City, Gravity Well, Omnipollo, a Warpigs double IPA at nine percent sold by the third, and a Westmalle. Three of the twenty were alcohol-free and they were proper ones, a Verdant NA IPA and a Hammerton pale rather than the usual token. Pints run six seventy to eight twenty. The brothers who started this in 2016 said the point was championing independent brewers, and unlike most people who say that, the board backs it. Northern Monk has brewed a collaboration pale with them. There is no cask, which CAMRA's own record states plainly, so come for keg or do not come. The food is the format's other half: five burgers, one of them vegan, a guest burger that changes, mac balls and Seoul wings, eaten at counter seats on a glass corner with neon over it. It stops at could-visit because nobody independent has ever judged it. CAMRA describes the room without ruling on it, Hot Dinners announced the opening seven years ago, and no beer writer has written the place up. The buying is auditable and good; the cooking is a chain burger and nobody has said otherwise.
