Cafe Helen
Two shawarma cones turn here from late afternoon until 6am, which makes this one of the few kitchens in central London still carving meat at four in the morning (The Infatuation).
Why go
Edgware Road is the spine of Lebanese and Levantine eating in London, and Cafe Helen holds the late shift on it. Jake Missing called it a west London institution
in The Infatuation and scored it 7.3, with the caveat doing real work: although it's not the most carefully made shawarma in the world, the fact that you can call on Cafe Helen any time of night more than makes up for it
(The Infatuation). There is a sit-down room serving mezze as well as the wrap counter, a separate takeaway shop next door, and shisha on the pavement outside. No approved local-expert outlet has published on it, so this entry rests on that single review.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the spicy wrap, which is the reviewer's pick. Sit down for the Lebanese mezze if you arrive early enough to want plates rather than a wrap.
- Avoid: rating it against the strip's best. The point of the address is the hour, and at 8pm there are more careful shawarmas within walking distance.
What locals & experts say
- The Infatuation (Jake Missing, 12 December 2023, 7.3):
although it's not the most carefully made shawarma in the world, the fact that you can call on Cafe Helen any time of night more than makes up for it.
1 - The Infatuation (same review):
a west London institution,
listed as a pick for late nights, cheap eats, walk-ins and solo dining.1 - Coverage gap: no Time Out, Standard, Guardian, Hardens or Hot Dinners write-up exists as of 29 July 2026.
Good to know
- Timing: from late afternoon to 6am, as reported in December 2023 and not re-confirmed since. Worth a call before a long trip across town.
- Booking: walk-in. Solo diners are the house norm.
- Dietary: nothing published. The venue makes no halal, allergen or vegetarian statement, so ask at the counter rather than assuming.
- Location: 105A Edgware Road W2 2HX, between Marble Arch and Edgware Road stations.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "Good shawarma open all night." REAL.
Verdict
could-visit — Two cones turn until 6am on Edgware Road, which is a genuine service in a city that shuts at eleven. The Infatuation's own verdict is that the shawarma is not the most carefully made in London and the hours more than make up for it, and that is the correct frame: this is where you go at 3am, not where you go to eat the best version. Solid at the shawarma, and the shawarma is all it does.
