Craft Metropolis (Brixton)
Verdant put its name over this railway arch as a residency, which is a brewery vouching for whoever is choosing the beer (Craft Metropolis, Untappd).
Why go
The arch sits down a narrow alley linking Coldharbour Lane and Hinton Road, closer to Loughborough Junction station than to Brixton, and it runs over two floors (Brixton Buzz). Twelve taps, all independent beer, plus fridges deep enough that this is a shop as much as a bar (Craft Metropolis). Untappd has 1,401 distinct beers logged against the venue across nearly eleven thousand check-ins, which is the rotation record stated as a number. The room holds 75, the licence runs to midnight, and the upstairs can be hired for nothing by a party of 25 or more, with a dart board, a projector, an outside space and an arcade machine carrying three thousand games. There is no kitchen; pizza comes in from Yard Sale. The company's original shop is in Penge and a third site opens in Sydenham in August 2026.
Order this / avoid
- Order: off the Verdant lines while the residency is on, since that is the reason the arch looks the way it does, then whatever else is on the twelve to see how the buyer thinks. Take a can home from the fridge wall on the way out.
- Avoid: Monday, when it is shut, and any weekday before 4pm. If you want a dozen different breweries in one sitting, the residency is working against you.
What locals & experts say
- Brixton Buzz, 28 May 2025, on what is inside the arch:
the taproom is stuffed full of an exquisite range of 12 taps of beer, and a ton of cans and bottles. And if you get peckish during a session, pizza can be ordered in from the award winning Yard Sale shop.
The site takes no advertising or sponsorship, which it states on the page.1 - The company on itself, quoted by that piece:
a team of three idiots who hook people up with the world's best beers.
1 - Untappd, read 30 July 2026, as a structural signal and nothing more: 1,401 unique beers across 10,737 check-ins, with the recent tail running four Verdant beers and a Vault City sour. That is what a residency looks like in the data.3
- No critic has reviewed it. Searches on 30 July 2026 returned the local-press piece, the company's own pages, listings sites and Untappd. The craft case here rests on the residency, the tap count and the check-in record, all dated above.
Good to know
- Which site: Arch 263, 241 Coldharbour Lane SW9 8RR, reached down the alley. The original shop is CMHQ in Penge at 47 High Street SE20 7HW, and Sydenham is listed as coming in August 2026.
- Timing: closed Monday. Tuesday to Thursday 4pm to 10.30, Friday 4pm to 11.30, Saturday noon to 11.30, Sunday noon to 8.
- Groups: capacity 75, or 100 on a full hire. Hire of the upstairs starts at free for 25 people or more, and the licence runs to midnight with later closing possible.
- Food: none made on site. Yard Sale delivers pizza to the arch.
- Beyond beer: house cocktails, local gin, and a wine list with organic and natural bottles on it.
- Hygiene: no FSA record exists for this premises, which fits a bar with no kitchen. The company's Penge shop rates 5, inspected 6 February 2024, and that rating belongs to Penge.4
Verdict
should-visit — Twelve indie taps in a two-floor railway arch down an alley off Coldharbour Lane, and Verdant thought enough of the buying to put its name over the door as a residency. That is the credential worth travelling for: breweries choose the rooms they trust, and Verdant is not a brewery that hands its name out. The venue has 1,401 distinct beers logged against it and the fridges do the shop half of the job, so what you cannot drink there you carry home. Pizza arrives from Yard Sale because there is no kitchen. Upstairs is hireable for nothing if you bring twenty-five people, with a dart board, a projector and an arcade machine loaded with three thousand games, which tells you what kind of night this room is built for. Two honest caveats: while the residency runs, the spread across breweries is narrower than the venue's history suggests, and it is shut on Mondays and does not open until four the rest of the week. The Penge shop is the original and a different room.
