Gravity Well Taproom
Ten lines of the brewery's own beer with a lager, a dark beer and a sour always among them, and a hygiene rating of 0 from April 2026.45
Why go
The beer, and the beer is genuinely good. Ten draught lines pour Gravity Well's own, and the brewery commits to keeping a lager, dark beer and sour as well as a range of pales, IPAs and other styles
on at all times, on top of the hazy pales it is known for (venue). The core three are Cosmic Dust, a 3.8% session IPA, Termination Shock, a pale ale, and Galaxies Apart, a 6% NEIPA, with new beers weekly (Time Out). Brewing started in a Leyton railway arch in 2018 and moved to Tottenham with new kit in 2023, into the same estate as Redemption (CAMRA). The taproom stayed here, a hundred meters from Leyton Midland Road Overground, and the brewery is blunt about why: We don't have a taproom at our brewery in Tottenham. It's too small. Sorry.
Prices are the other draw, framed by the brewery as prices you won't believe for a trendy London borough.
Order this / avoid
- Order: Cosmic Dust if you are settling in, Galaxies Apart if you are not, and whatever sour is on the sixth or seventh line. Cans go home from the fridge. Gluten-free beer is stocked (venue).
- Avoid: eating here without weighing the hygiene rating above. The taproom has no kitchen of its own and its own food offer is listed as
Coming soon
; CAMRA records that food is ordered in from Spicebox, a local vegan Indian restaurant, which is a separately registered business1. Also avoid arriving before 4pm on a weekday, and do not expect cask.
What locals & experts say
- Time Out (25 September 2024):
'Best beer in London, mate' is a phrase often heard when mentioning this tiny bar in a railway arch beneath Leyton Midland Road station.
The same listing is honest about the competition, naming Libertaliain another arch further along
and calling this onea solid favourite around here
inan increasingly crowded market in this part of London.
3 - CAMRA, East London & City branch (record updated 14 May 2026):
Taproom of Gravity Well brewery. Aims to cover a broad range of the craft beer spectrum whilst maintaining the focus on their signature hazy, juicy pales and IPAs.
The same record notes cask ale is not available.1 - CAMRA's brewery record places the operation historically:
Brewing started in 2018 in a railway arch in Leyton with a bigger taproom opening along the line in 2020. 2023 saw a move with new kit to Tottenham, into the same industrial estate as Redemption and the former OME brewery.
2 - Food Standards Agency, 25 April 2026: rating 0. That is the most recent assessment of this premises by anyone, and it outranks a 2024 listing on the question of whether to eat.5
Good to know
- Hygiene, stated plainly: FSA rating 0, Waltham Forest, inspected 25 April 2026, FHRSID 1371584. Component scores 15 hygiene, 25 structure, 30 confidence in management, and in this scheme higher is worse, with 30 the top of the management band. No re-rating was pending at the time of writing. The inspection is three months old, so this is current information rather than an old finding left uncorrected. Drink here if you want the beer; treat the food question with that in mind. Waltham Forest's food safety team is at food.safety@walthamforest.gov.uk (record).
- Timing: Monday to Thursday 4pm to 10pm, Friday 4pm to 11pm, Saturday noon to 11pm, Sunday 1pm to 9pm per the venue. CAMRA's record says the Sunday opening is 2pm, so allow for that.
- Booking: walk in. The event space next door can be hired privately through the venue.
- Access: CAMRA's statement is "Step free access. No Accessible toilet." Dog friendly, families welcome, wi-fi.
- Getting there: Leyton Midland Road Overground is 100m away, two stops east of Blackhorse Road on the Victoria line. The 69 and 97 buses run from Walthamstow or Stratford.
- Beer format: keg and can only. No cask.
- Sites: one taproom, this one. The brewery is a separate premises in Tottenham with no taproom. Libertalia's taproom is in a different arch along the same line and is a different business.
Craft signals (beer: a brewery releasing rather than restocking)
Two signals for the cadence. CAMRA's record has the taproom aiming to cover a broad range of the craft beer spectrum while keeping the focus on its own hazy juicy pales and IPAs, across ten lines with a lager, a dark beer and a sour always on. Untappd's public feed on 30 July 2026 shows what fills the rest: four different own-brewery releases in a row, two of them carrying version numbers including a Starlight Dimmer Switch V46. Iterating a recipe to a fourth version and pouring each one is release cadence, and it is why this reads as rotating rather than a fixed house range.
Verdict
could-visit — Start with the finding: Waltham Forest gave this premises an FSA hygiene rating of 0 on 25 April 2026, with 30 out of 30 on confidence in management, and no re-rating pending. Three months is current, so drink here knowing that and think twice about the food. What is good is the beer. Ten lines of the brewery's own, always including a lager, a dark and a sour alongside the hazy pales the brewery is known for, in a railway arch a hundred meters from Leyton Midland Road, at prices the brewery itself frames as unlikely for the postcode. Time Out reports the local line as best beer in London. That earns a stop, not a trek, and the hygiene rating is why it does not earn more.
