Hackney Church Brew Co.
A handpump has gone on a bar that ran ten keg lines and nothing else.1
Why go
The arches at 16 and 17 Bohemia Place pour the company's own beer, and CAMRA's East London branch still described the site as a brewpub when it refreshed the record in August 2026. The company's own site says it has sites in Hackney Central and in Walthamstow and does not say which one brews, so a visitor hoping to look at a working brewhouse should treat that as an open question.2
The operators are direct about what they are trying to run: The taproom is a space where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background, beliefs, or identity.

Order this / avoid
- Order: the cask, since one handpump is the whole cask offer and it is new. Pucker Up, a blackberry and lemon sour at 5 per cent, is what the brewery leads its own shop with.
- Avoid: Monday and Tuesday, when the arches are shut.
Good to know
- Where: 16 & 17 Bohemia Place E8 1DU, in the arches by Hackney Central.
- Hours: the brewery's site publishes two timetables for its two sites without labelling either, so none are printed here. Check before travelling.
- Second site: Unit B, 101 Blackhorse Lane E17 6DJ in Walthamstow.
- Freeholder: The Arch Company, per CAMRA. The pub previously traded as the St John at Hackney Brewpub.
Verdict
could-visit — Ten keg lines of the company's own beer under the Bohemia Place arches, with a single handpump now added to a bar that did not have one, which is the kind of small change that says somebody there wants cask to work. The company runs a second site on Blackhorse Lane in Walthamstow and its own pages do not say which one does the brewing, while CAMRA's East London branch still called this a brewpub in August 2026, so do not go expecting to be certain of seeing a brewhouse. The taproom states plainly that it is a room for everyone regardless of background, belief or identity, which is the operators speaking for themselves. It sits mid-ladder because two sources disagree about what is made here and no beer beyond the shop's lead sour is named.
