Team behind fallow

Jeff's note

Roe

The vegetables come off an aeroponic green wall inside the building, and the grill is built around whole venison.

Why go

Roe is the Canary Wharf restaurant from the team behind Fallow: chefs Jack Croft and Will Murray with James Robson, who started Fallow in St James's in May 2019 and later added FOWL. Both chefs came out of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Croft with time at El Celler de Can Roca and Murray with four years at Dinner plus The Fat Duck, The Clove Club, Core and Royal Hospital Road (Fallow). That training shows as nose-to-tail butchery rather than tweezer work: Harden's 2026 guide files the place as a venison-led grill and notes the vegetables grown on site on an aeroponic wall. The group is B Corp certified. It opens at 07:30 on weekdays and serves through to 22:30. Tower Hamlets rated the kitchen 5 on 2 February 2026.

Order this / avoid

  • Order: the mixed grill of venison, and the lamb ribs. Jimi Famurewa found them "so succulent and yielding they practically fell off the bone." ref On a Sunday, the Feast of Roe is what Harden's readers single out.
  • Avoid: planning a tight schedule around the service. Harden's 2026 survey rates service 2 out of 5, average, against food at 4 out of 5.

What locals & experts say

  • Jimi Famurewa, Evening Standard, as quoted by Harden's: "Roe is both big and clever...one of the defining, gravity-defying openings of the year." ref
  • Grace Dent, The Guardian, as quoted by Harden's: the menu "dances rather daintily and deftly between 'pub grub', 'fever dream' and 'Noma'," with "massive, assertive flavours" and "geeky precision." ref
  • Harden's 2026 guide: Food 4 out of 5, Ambience 3, Service 2, average spend 108 pounds. A reader, Edward O: "I proposed to my partner at ROE yesterday Evening...The Feast of Roe Sunday lunch was by far the best Sunday lunch I have ever eaten." ref
  • Local rec: Jeff's row says "Team behind fallow," which is the whole point of the save. REAL.

Good to know

  • Timing: Monday to Friday 07:30 to 22:30, Saturday and Sunday 09:30 to 22:30. Breakfast is served.
  • Booking: book, especially for Sunday.
  • Price: Harden's puts the average at 108 pounds a head. No a la carte spend is published.
  • Dietary: Roe publishes no allergen or dietary statement. The sibling FOWL states it cannot guarantee a trace-free environment, so ask here rather than assume.
  • Hygiene: FSA record 1725739, rating 5 under Tower Hamlets, inspected 2 February 2026.
  • Getting there: Unit A.1.1, 5 Park Drive, Wood Wharf, a short walk east of Canary Wharf station.
  • The siblings: Fallow in St James's, and FOWL on Norris Street off the Haymarket, both from the same three founders.

Jeff's take (his words)

  • Note: "Team behind fallow" REAL. That team is Jack Croft and Will Murray, both out of Dinner by Heston, with James Robson.

Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)

should-visit — Jack Croft and Will Murray both came out of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Croft by way of El Celler de Can Roca and Murray by way of The Fat Duck and The Clove Club, and what they do at Wood Wharf is a nose-to-tail grill built around venison with vegetables cut from an aeroponic wall inside the building. Jimi Famurewa called it one of the defining openings of its year. Grace Dent said the menu moves between pub grub, fever dream and Noma with geeky precision. Harden's readers rate the food Very Good and the service Average, at an average spend of 108 pounds, which is the reason it sits here rather than at the top.

Order

  • The mixed grill of venison
  • Lamb ribs doused in mint sauce
  • The Feast of Roe Sunday lunch
  • Vegetables cut from the aeroponic green wall in the building

Good to know

  • Booking: recommended
  • Timing: all-day, breakfast
  • Best for: dinner, lunch, breakfast, groups-ok, big-night, date
  • Avoid: Counting on the service. Diners rate the food well above the floor team, and that gap has held for a couple of years; Treating it as a cheap lunch. The average spend here lands in three figures
  • Expert picks: Grace Dent, Jimi Famurewa
