Tetote Factory
CLOSED. The bakery's own homepage put it plainly: "we have closed our business as of March 28 2026," after what the earlier notice called "15 years of this journey" (venue, Wayback 15 May 2026).
Why go
You cannot, now. What it was: a Japanese bakery at 12 South Ealing Road, four days a week from 11am to 4pm, run by Japanese bakers who moved the operation over from Wembley around 2011 (Japanese London, 2013). No seating, a small service counter, and the big preparation area visible behind it. The range was the Japanese bakery canon done straight: cream pan, an pan, melon pan, curry pan, green tea brioche, tuna and sweetcorn buns, plus French baguettes and the softest sliced bread. The final menu ran GBP 2.90 to GBP 3.80 an item, with nut-containing items marked (N) and a couple of dishes only baked on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The domain now serves a Wix "This domain isn't connected to a site" page, and no successor at the address has been identified.
Order this / avoid
- Order: nothing, it is shut. For the record, the two things worth traveling for were the tuna and sweetcorn bun and the honey butter toast, which The Infatuation called "a crisp, caramelised outer layer" giving way to "soft, honey-soaked bread" ref. Japanese London rated the cream pan above every other in the city.
- Avoid: making the trip. The bakery closed for good on 28 March 2026 and nothing has taken the name over.
What locals & experts say
- Vittles, "Six of One: 209 Amazing Restaurants": "There's a pilgrimage route that's started to take shape in West London. It begins on South Ealing Road at Tetote Factory for empyreal Franco-Japanese patisserie before leading you to an eccentric collection of epicurean delights at The Ealing Grocer and ending at a relatively new spot on The Mall." The writer had "already eaten six buns at Tetote" before lunch. ref
- Sinéad Cranna, The Infatuation (29 May 2025, scored 8.2): "Tetote Factory is one of London's best Japanese bakeries. If you're not a local, it's a fair walk from Ealing Broadway and far enough from South Ealing station for you not to stumble across it, but you should absolutely seek it out." Her dissent, on the karaage sandwich: "This fried chicken sandwich is pleasant enough... but it's not especially memorable." ref
- Japanese London (23 December 2013): "The cream pan must surely be the best in London. The green tea custard pan has a fragrant aroma and a deep, delicious matcha tea taste." Practical advice that held for the next twelve years: "It is recommended to pop in early, as by mid-afternoon most of the pan products will be sold out!" ref
- Local rec: it was on Jeff's list as a Vittles map recommendation, filed as the best French bakery. REAL.
Good to know
- Status: closed 28 March 2026, by the owners' decision. The last FSA inspection, on 28 May 2025, gave it a rating of 5, so this was not a hygiene closure.
- Address for the record: 12 South Ealing Road, W5 4QA, Ealing. The master row had the suburb as West Ealing, which was wrong, and it has been corrected.
- Final hours, for a future pass comparing a relaunch: Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm.
- The route it anchored: Vittles' South Ealing Road walk carried on to The Ealing Grocer and Haku Cafe & Izakaya on The Mall, both of which are separate propositions and worth checking before anyone plans that trip.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "Get there at eleven. From lhr overnight. Vittles map rec. Best French bakery" REAL. The eleven was right: the shop opened at 11am and sold out by mid-afternoon.
Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)
listed — It was the best Japanese bakery in West London and it is gone. Fifteen years of cream pan, melon pan and honey butter toast at GBP 3 a bun, from a counter you could see the bakers working behind, and Vittles made it the first stop on a South Ealing walking route. It closed on 28 March 2026 by the owners' choice, with an FSA 5 on the wall. Rung is 'listed' only because there is nothing left to visit; on craft it was a should-visit.
