The Owl & The Pussycat
Six handpumps, and every one of them pours beer brewed behind the counter.1
Why go
It opened in December 2016 in a former bookshop and was the first micropub in West London.1 The brewery is Marko Paulo and it is on the premises, so up to six real ales come off the handpumps without going anywhere first, and the cellar sits at the same level behind the bar where you can see it. Six keg lines run alongside, and the cider and perry list goes to ten, which is longer than the beer. West Middlesex CAMRA named it branch Pub of the Year in 2026.
Order this / avoid
- Order: a handpumped Marko Paulo, then a cider, because ten of them in a room this size is a deliberate choice.
- Avoid: turning up expecting entertainment. The room is small and conversation is the whole programme.
What locals & experts say
- CAMRA, West Middlesex branch:
The first Micropub to open in West London, in December 2016, in a former bookshop. Serves up to 6 real ales from its own brewery in situ (Marko Paulo Beers) through handpumps on a small bar counter, behind which is a view of a same level cellar.

Verdict
should-visit — West London's first micropub, opened in a former bookshop in December 2016, and it brews what it sells: up to six handpumps of Marko Paulo beer made on the premises, poured off a small counter with the cellar sitting behind it at the same level and in plain sight. Ten ciders and perries is a longer list than the beer, which is unusual anywhere. West Middlesex CAMRA made it branch Pub of the Year in 2026. It is small, there is nothing to look at but each other, and that is the design. It falls short of the top rung because CAMRA is the only source that exists, no hours are published, and nobody has written about how the beer drinks.
