Jeff's note

StreetXO Madrid

The Peking dumpling with crisp pig's ear has been on the card at StreetXO, Dabiz Muñoz's counter restaurant, since it opened in 2012.

Why go

Dabiz Muñoz, the chef of DiverXO, opened StreetXO in 2012 as what he called a casual, fun format of street cooking.4 Julia Pérez and Fernando Calero of Gastroactitud put the difference in clothes in February 2024: DiverXo is haute couture and StreetXo is ready-to-wear.2 The counter moved to the top floor of El Corte Inglés on Serrano on 19 January 2023. The group called the new room a counter restaurant, a space exactly like the old one.4

Come for the savory cooking. Danny Salas ate there in its first fortnight and wrote in El Español that every dish is a high B or better, none misses, and that it clearly deserves a Michelin star.3 A year later Gastroactitud scored it 7.5 out of 10 for a fusion cooking perfectly studied, balanced and executed.2

The dumpling comes with a strawberry hoisin, alioli and pickle, 15 euros for three in 2023.3 Gastroactitud found the dumplings absolutely addictive.2 The steamed club sandwich and the pork-belly ssam with pickled mussels have been on the card as long as the dumpling.2 Paula Móvil of Eater says the club sandwich is actually a steamed pork bun topped with a fried quail egg.5

Order the tandoori pigeon from the robata, 38 euros in February 2024. It was a blood pigeon whose breast arrives red and full of flavour, spectacular, Gastroactitud wrote. The legs come separately, to eat with your hands.2

Stop before dessert. The same critics wrote that the desserts, though sweet and original, are not at the level of the savoury cooking.2 At the counter Gastroactitud put the bill at about 70 euros a head in February 2024.2 Salas put it at 60 to 70 euros a year earlier.3

Order this / avoid

  • Order: the croquetas de la Pedroche, with tuna sashimi, kimchi, sheep's milk and Lapsang Souchong tea, 19 euros in 2023. Danny Salas (2023): which by the way are spectacular.3 Gastroactitud (2024) found a very delicate béchamel and a crisp coating.2
  • Order: the fried wonton of txistorra from Arbizu with corn torreznos, which Gastroactitud (2024) called a great dish where texture counts almost as much as the mix of flavours.2
  • Order: the wok-fried squid, which Danny Salas (2023) called a spectacular dish.3
  • Order: the tandoori pigeon, which Gastroactitud (2024) called spectacular.2
  • Avoid: the liquid hazelnut soufflé, which Gastroactitud (2024) called a conceptually failed dish.2
  • Drink: the DiverXO Líquido, lime and ginger, which Gastroactitud (2024) says cools the heat.2

What locals & experts say

  • Paula Móvil, Eater (2025): Lines at StreetXO, his more casual venue, can be an hour or two long (get there early), but it's well worth the wait.5
  • Begoña Rodrigo, chef of La Salita in Valencia (2020, at the old Serrano 52 room): a fun concept that gets people thinking about eating and drinking in another way.7
  • Guía Repsol (2025): The idea is to bring the diner inside a young kitchen, with its ceaseless activity and the music at full blast.6
  • Gastroactitud (2024), on the room: transgressive decor, music flat out, controlled chaos, waiters and cooks in straitjackets.2
  • Award: 1 Sol Guía Repsol, first given in 2019 and held in 2025.6

Good to know

  • Where: the top floor of El Corte Inglés, Calle de Serrano 47, in Salamanca.6
  • Timing: the food bar serves lunch and dinner every day (September 2026). The cocktail bar stays open from noon to midnight.1
  • Booking: there are no bookings, so give your name at the cocktail bar and wait for the list. Only the private rooms take reservations.4
  • Beat the queue: on a Monday in 2023 Danny Salas found people lining up at 11:30 for the 13:00 service. His tip is a cocktail at the bar around 18:00 to be first in for dinner.3 Gastroactitud found it easiest around 16:00 and 23:30.2
  • Private room: it seats ten, with a minimum spend of 100 euros a head in 2024.2
  • At the counter: Gastroactitud found only small paper napkins and told readers to take as many as they like: you're going to need them.2
