Bouchaine Vineyards
Over twenty wines off one Carneros property, including Riesling and Pinot Meunier that nobody up-valley bothers to plant. The garden tasting is $45 and the wind comes off San Pablo Bay.
Why go
Bouchaine sits at the southern tip of Napa, less than an hour from the Golden Gate.1 The house says the vines went in during the 1880s and that it is the oldest continuously operating winery in Carneros, which is the winery's claim and not a verified one.1 What is unarguable is the range: over 20 wines, including Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier alongside the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.1 That is a lot of ambition for a region most people visit for two grapes. Prices run from $45 in the garden to $125 for the cheese pairing.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Garden Tasting at $45, the cheapest way onto the property and the one that seats you outdoors.1
- Order: Falconry in the Garden if the timing works. Master Falconer Rebecca Rosen runs it, $95 a head.1
- Avoid: driving down here for Cabernet. Carneros is cool and the list shows it.1
Good to know
- Booking: prepaid through Tock. Parties run to 10 on the bigger tastings.1
- Events: a Crush Party on 4 October 2026 at $200, and a lobster and caviar afternoon on 15 November at $250.1
- Hours: the winery's own visit page returns a 403 to us, so check times on the booking page.
- Hygiene: not established. No inspection instrument for this county is on file here.
Verdict
could-visit — Over twenty wines off one Carneros property, and the list runs to Riesling, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris, which is a far stranger planting than this valley usually bothers with and the reason to give it an afternoon. The house says the vines went in during the 1880s and that it has run continuously ever since, a claim I am carrying rather than confirming. Forty-five dollars puts you in the garden with the Carneros wind coming off the bay, and ninety-five puts a Master Falconer named Rebecca Rosen in front of you. No critic has been read on the wine itself, which is the only thing holding it here.
