V. Sattui Winery
Over 200 cheeses in the deli, ribs and a tri-tip sandwich off the truck on weekends, and two and a half acres of shaded tables to eat it on.
Why go
Come hungry. The Mercato del Gusto is a working deli, open 9:30 to six, doing sandwiches, panini and salads alongside more than two hundred cheeses, charcuterie, house desserts and gelato.2 On Saturday and Sunday between 11:30 and three a truck runs baby back ribs and the Napa tri-tip sandwich outside, weather allowing.2 You eat it on two and a half acres of shaded ground at hand-built redwood and cedar tables, open to patrons from nine until seven.2 Nothing from outside comes in, which is the deal.2 Vittorio Sattui started the winery in 1885 and his great-grandson Dario re-established it in 1976, and it sells through its own doors only, so the bottles are not in shops.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the tri-tip sandwich off the weekend truck, and the ribs beside it.2
- Order: a board out of the Mercato. Two hundred cheeses is enough range to build a real lunch rather than a snack.2
- Avoid: packing your own. No outside food or drink comes onto the property at all.2
- Avoid: a weekend without a reservation. The winery says capacity is limited then, and a tasting booking is what gets you into the retail room and onto the picnic grounds.2
What locals & experts say
- V. Sattui, on its own two beginnings:
First founded by Vittorio Sattui in 1885 and re-established in 1976 by Vittorio's great-grandson Dario, V. Sattui is one of Napa Valley's most historic wineries.
1 - The same page, on why you cannot buy it anywhere else:
As one of the few Napa Valley wineries selling exclusively through our own doors, you'll find our highly acclaimed wines only here.

Both are the winery on itself. I read nothing from outside it, so I have no critic's line on the wine.
Good to know
- The deli runs 9:30am to 6pm daily, 9:30 to 5 in winter, and the picnic grounds are open to patrons 9am to 7pm.2
- No tasting price is established here. The reservations page was not read on this pass.
- The winery claims a Michelin-starred Italian chef for its events and names nobody, so this entry does not carry it.
- Hygiene: not established. No inspection instrument for this county is on file here.
Verdict
could-visit — This is where you eat between tastings. The deli runs sandwiches, panini, salads, over two hundred cheeses, charcuterie and gelato from 9:30 to six, and on Saturday and Sunday a truck fires up baby back ribs and a tri-tip sandwich from 11:30 to three, all of it eaten on two and a half acres of shaded lawn at redwood tables. Nothing from outside comes onto the property, which is the trade. Vittorio Sattui founded it in 1885 and his great-grandson Dario put it back on its feet in 1976, and the wine sells through these doors only, which is why you will not find it in a shop. No tasting price is established here and the winery's claim to a Michelin-starred chef names nobody, so I did not print it.
