Lucia Pizza Of SoHo
The vodka slice here is the one Willa Moore calls the blueprint, and she scores this Canal Street counter 8.6. They finish every slice at the counter, sprinkling parmesan, drizzling olive oil and tearing fresh basil over the top.
Why go
The plain is the one to judge them on. It comes out thin, and Moore watched a pizza maker close the box, think for a second, open it again and throw more basil on.1 This is Lucia's second shop and its first in Manhattan. The original is in Sheepshead Bay, and Moore still recommends the trip out there.1 Canal Street is the practical one, and the A/C stops there. The Infatuation gives its best-slice title to L'Industrie in Williamsburg, and Lucia is the shop most likely to change a Manhattan reader's mind about that.2
Order this / avoid
- Order: the vodka slice. Moore:
It's creamy with just a little bit of tomato bite. Order this.
1 - Order: the creamed spinach on a first visit, green and white striped. Moore:
This has a more subtle flavor than other slices here, and everyone visiting Lucia for the first time should give it a shot.
1 - Order: the pepperoni and jalapeno if you want heat, crisped pepperoni and peppers under a drizzle of hot honey.1
- Avoid: treating one slice as a meal. Moore's rule is that a slice is a snack and a meal takes two to three.1
What locals & experts say
- Willa Moore, The Infatuation, 2 July 2024, 8.6: on the plain,
Underneath the hill of greenery, you'll find a thin-crust plain pie so deeply charred that bits of crust and cheese are almost burnt (but not quite). There's no holding back here.

Good to know
- The door: this page is 375 Canal Street. Lucia also trades in Sheepshead Bay, Gramercy and on the Upper East Side, and The Infatuation reviews each one on its own page.2
- Timing: slices through the day and into the night. It is on the publication's late-night list.
Verdict
should-visit — Four slices here are worth ordering and no two of them taste alike. Start with the vodka. Willa Moore says the creamed spinach looks different from anything else in New York, so eat that second. If you have a whole afternoon, her own advice is the trip out to the Sheepshead Bay original.
