Sadelle's
Major Food Group opened this SoHo room in 2015 and named it after co-founder Jeff Zalaznick's great-grandmother. Hot bagels arrive on the floor stacked down a wooden baton. The smoked fish goes up on a stand, like a fruits de mer.
Why go
The other way to order is one fish, a bagel and the works. Eater calls that the sensible move for one or two. That is the same trade any appetizing counter does, at restaurant prices and with a reservation attached.
The latke is large-format. They cut it with a pizza wheel and bring it by the wedge.
Order this / avoid
- Order: one fish with a bagel and the usual fixings if you are two.
- Order: the latke, by the wedge.
- Avoid: the stacked tower unless you have a table to feed. It carries a three-digit price.
What locals & experts say

very much a production -- with their flashy-ness, high prices, and long waits
. The Infatuation rates this room 8.2.3 - Alexandra Ilyashov, Eater NY, October 2018: she files it as Major Food Group's luxurious interpretation of the appetizing shop, one of sixteen throwback appetizing rooms she picks across the city.1
Good to know
- Getting in: book. The room does buyouts and private events, and the third floor takes daytime parties.
- Where: 463 West Broadway, on the SoHo stretch.
Verdict
could-visit — The staging is the product here and it is done well, so this is a birthday room and a bad solo lunch. Book ahead.
