SUITED
Suited pours by-the-cup drip off a Decent machine at 45 John Street, from a shelf that changes. Preface, Prodigal, Subtext and Heart were on it, with an Aviary lot Christopher Feran roasts for the shop alone.12
Why go
Liz Clayton reported for Sprudge that the menu and the shelves carry Preface, Prodigal, Subtext and Heart, and that a Decent espresso machine behind the counter is fitted for by-the-cup drip.1 Service runs off two arc-shaped bars, in a room of mirrors, black accent walls and poured concrete. The name comes partly from the tailor father of one of the founders.1
Suited runs a kitchen most coffee bars skip. It sends out breakfasts, burritos, bowls and soups, house pastries, a fried chicken sandwich and wine.1
On the shelf in September 2026 were a Sey Ethiopian at $26 and a washed Gesha from Finca Lerida at $55.2 I haven't found anyone else writing about this shop.
Order this / avoid
- Order: a drip by the cup. That is what the Decent is set up for and it is how you taste one roaster against another.1
- Order: the Aviary bag to take home. The shop calls it an exclusive collaboration, roasted for it by Christopher Feran.2
- Avoid: planning to work here. Clayton counts the laptop seating as deliberately limited, and the outside tables sit close to the traffic.1
What locals & experts say
- Liz Clayton, associate editor at Sprudge, on what the room feels like:
there's a decisively Brooklyn vibe in here as you nibble a fried chicken sandwich to the lilting strains of the Shins and Yo La Tengo.
1 - The shop's own note beside the brew list, on a week when nothing had rested long enough:
No rested coffees available at this time.
2
Good to know
- The door: 45 John Street, across from the John Street Methodist Church, which has stood there since 1766.1
- The shelf changes. In September 2026 the store listed nine: Aviary, Botz, Coffee With Dongze, Datura, Hydrangea, Preface, Prodigal, September and Sey.2
Verdict
could-visit — A shelf this wide is only worth crossing town for if you drink something you have not had before. Come without a usual.
