Supreme Restaurant
Robert Sietsema and Nadia Chaudhury pick five Mott Street doors in Eater's Chinatown guide, and number 100 is not one of them.1
Why go
Their five are Wo Hop at 17 Mott, Mei Lai Wah at 41, Maxi's Noodle at 68, Royal Seafood at 103 and Hien From Vietnam at 121.1 I have not found anybody who has written about the kitchen at number 100.
Order this / avoid
- Avoid: planning a Chinatown afternoon around this door when five on the same street have been written up.1
What locals & experts say
- Robert Sietsema and Nadia Chaudhury, in Eater NY, on Royal Seafood at 103 Mott: Royal Seafood
may only be a decade and a half or so old, but there have been a succession of Cantonese banquet halls at this location, and the glitzy gold and red decor persists.
1 - The same guide, on the rest of the block: Wo Hop was founded in 1938 and is the second-oldest restaurant in Chinatown, with chop suey still on the menu. Mei Lai Wah reopened at its Mott Street address and still runs a line for the pork bun. Maxi's Noodle brought Flushing's wontons down here.1
Verdict
could-visit — Try it as a discovery and keep your expectations at street level. Royal Seafood at 103 Mott is the safer table.
