Sushi 456
Two omakase options at the counter, $70 for ten pieces and $100 for fifteen in February 2023. Bryan Kim, in The Infatuation, says the cheaper of the two is still a luxurious meal.
Why go
The room does nothing to help its own case. It sits on a quiet stretch of Hudson Street with a bare dining room, a few plain wooden tables and a small chef's counter. Sushi Nakazawa runs twenty courses at $190 and sushi AMANE seats nine for one $250 menu. This counter asks seventy dollars. Kim's argument for it is how the fish is handled.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the ten-piece at the counter.
- Avoid: a table if you want the full thing. You can order a la carte sitting down, and the omakase belongs at the counter.
What locals & experts say
- Bryan Kim, The Infatuation, 6 February 2023, 8.1:
Pieces like buttery king salmon and amberjack with bits of jalapeño are served at precisely the right melt-in-your-mouth temperature, and it's the little details like this (along with the solid fish selection) that set 456 apart.

- Closed: Mondays.
Verdict
should-visit — Take the ten-piece and sit at the counter. Kim files it in the publication's guide to omakase under a hundred dollars. Book ahead.
