Szechuan Gourmet
Szechuan Gourmet burned in 2018 and rebuilt on the same block off Bryant Park. The MICHELIN inspectors say the kitchen came back without missing a beat. The inspector calls the rebuilt room an elegant upgrade on the original.
Why go
The guide lists it in the current New York selection and gives it no distinction. Its inspector sends anyone who wants Sichuan peppercorn heat and the burn of bright red chili oil straight here.
Order this / avoid
- Order: plump pork dumplings in chili oil, and the scallion pancakes, thin and crisp.
- Order: the salt and pepper prawns.
- Order: spicy hot and sour cellophane noodles, or braised fish fillets with bean curd, for the middle of the meal.
What locals & experts say
- The MICHELIN Guide's inspector, in the entry dated November 2025:
Few would expect to find some of the city's best Sichuan food along a quiet street near Bryant Park right under the nose of Midtown office workers.

Verdict
could-visit — Call the restaurant to book, because it takes its own reservations and no platform holds a seat here.
