TIPSY SHANGHAI 蘇杭餐厅
Tipsy Shanghai took the old Monsieur Vo room on the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Sixth Street in December 2024.1
Why go
Ownership told the neighborhood the cooking here would be more upscale. The rest of the chainlet was the comparison they drew.1 I have not found anybody who has eaten at this one and written about it.
In the same neighborhood, CheLi cooks the same regional food and holds a Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide.2 The inspector's picks there are chicken soaked in Shaoxing wine, stir-fried rice cakes with pork and leeks, and a peach resin stew with crabmeat.2
Order this / avoid
- Avoid: taking the signage literally. It calls the place a century-old restaurant from China and the chainlet started in 2018.1
What locals & experts say
- The MICHELIN inspector, on the Shanghainese room up the street: CheLi
remains one of the best places for elegant Shanghainese cooking
, witha line that's almost always stretching out the front door.
2 - EV Grieve, December 2024, on what was here before: Monsieur Vo closed in this space in the fall of that year, after a September 2022 debut.1
Verdict
could-visit — Take it as the neighborhood option and nothing more. If Shanghainese is the point of the evening, book CheLi.
