Temescal Brewing
They pour lagers and hazy IPAs off Telegraph Avenue seven days a week, and a different food truck works the beer garden most nights.
Why go
Sam Gilbert opened this on Telegraph in 2016 and the beer garden is the reason people stay. The Chronicle's Esther Mobley describes a colorful taproom known for balanced lagers and hazy IPAs,
and there is no kitchen, so the food is whichever truck is parked that evening.12 The business has had a hard decade. Temescal opened a large production facility in Jack London Square in 2019 to scale up, and CEO Brandon Borgel told Mobley what happened next: we had doubled our overhead just as business took a downturn.
1 Gilbert handed the business to Borgel and other investors in summer 2024 and stayed on as a shareholder.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: a lager. That is the half of the house style the Chronicle names first.1
- Avoid: early Monday. It opens at 5pm that day and by 4pm the rest of the week.2

Verdict
could-visit — Two things hold the rung down and neither is about the beer. The only critical description on the record is Esther Mobley's shorthand for the house style, balanced lagers and hazy IPAs, with no named pour behind it. And the business is in Chapter 11 as of October 2025, which the Chronicle reports alongside the owner saying the taproom stays open, so a reader should know before planning a night around it. The beer garden and the seven-day food trucks are real and the doors are real.
