Manresa Bread (Los Altos)
The bakery grew out of Manresa, David Kinch's three-star Los Gatos restaurant, and outlived it. The State Street counter runs 8am to 3pm.
Why go
Manresa the restaurant closed at the end of 2022 after 20 years and three Michelin stars; the bread operation kept going.3 Kinch is still a partner in the bakery, per the Michelin Guide's February 2026 Santa Clara County feature.2 Five doors run now, Los Gatos to Santa Cruz.1 This is the Los Altos one, and nobody in print names its loaves, so I can't tell you what to order yet.

- Avoid: arriving after 3pm. The Los Altos counter closes then; the Palo Alto door runs to 7pm if you miss it.1

Verdict
could-visit — Kinch keeping a partner's stake after closing the restaurant is what makes this more than a neighborhood bakery, and Michelin's February 2026 county feature confirms he still holds it. Five doors now run across the valley and this one holds down State Street until 3pm. Nobody in print names an individual loaf, so there is no product to rank yet, only the lineage.
