Puntarella Rossa is Rome's own food desk, started as a city blog on 15 April 2009 and running as a full site since 10 February 2011. Its reviewers visit anonymously and pay for every lunch and dinner out of their own pockets, and the masthead states that the title takes no public funding, no money or indirect contribution from restaurateurs, and no dinner invitations or gifts of any kind. Every review carries three marks, for the cooking, the room and the service, plus a bonus naming one positive aspect and a malus naming one negative aspect. It published the first edition of its Rome restaurant guide with Newton Compton in 2015, wrote the Piatti al Vinile column for Alias, the cultural supplement of il Manifesto, from 2010 to 2012, and ran Il Fatto Quotidiano's Piacere quotidiano food column from 2013 to 2014.
