Drunken Kitchen

Tim Rammell made his first potstickers as a boy, in the back of his aunt and uncle's potsticker shop in Taiwan.

Why go

Soon after, Tim Rammell and his brother, Joe, moved to the United States when a family in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, adopted them. Tim, the chef, told Sarah Gambles of the Deseret News in 2026 why they opened a Taiwanese and Chinese kitchen: I realized like Salt Lake kind of lacks a unique style of Asian cuisine, you could say, he said. It's a lot of American Chinese cuisine. Everything is really sweet and salty (Deseret News). In January 2025 they moved from a stall in Square Kitchen Eatery into Grid City Beer Works in South Salt Lake, where they took over the brewpub's food (Gastronomic SLC). Salt Lake Magazine named Drunken Kitchen its Best Restaurant of 2026 (Salt Lake Magazine).

Order the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The cooks make the noodles fresh every morning in the kitchen they share with the brewery (Salt Lake Magazine). Alex Springer of City Weekly ate it at the old stall in 2024 and put it among the best beef noodle soups on the Wasatch Front: The beef shank is gorgeously tender, the bok choy is toothsome but not unpleasantly crunchy and the noodles have the perfect amount of chewy heft to them. He singled out the pickled mustard greens, pulled from the jar at that ideal moment where they still maintain their crunch (City Weekly). Gambles ate it at Grid City in July 2026: The noodles are made in-house daily, and you can tell (Deseret News).

Expect heat. Kendall Rodriguez, on the magazine's 2026 awards panel, found the menu bold, playful and gloriously unafraid of spice and wrote that nothing showcases this better than their Dan Dan Noodles (Salt Lake Magazine). Stuart Melling of Gastronomic SLC recommended what he called in 2025 the scald-your-mouth-senseless-hot pork buns (Gastronomic SLC). Springer liked their crisp, fluffy dough in 2024 but found the textures to be more interesting than the flavors (City Weekly).

Order this / avoid

  • Order: the vegetable potstickers. Sarah Gambles (Deseret News, 2026): There was a little crunch on the outside, but the inside was hot and juicy.2
  • Order: the Taiwanese fried chicken. Stuart Melling (Gastronomic SLC, 2025): Drunken Kitchen's fried chicken is some of the best in the state, no question. Gambles (2026) found its seasoning unique from any I've tried before.4
  • Order: the marinated cucumbers beside the fried dishes. Gambles (Deseret News, 2026) called them a refreshing palate cleanser.2

Good to know

  • Kids: the room was 21 and over until 2026. Rammell said almost every table had a kid at it on the first day it opened to families.2
  • Price: the Deseret News put it at $$ in July 2026. At the old stall in 2024 the beef noodle soup cost $21.99 and the pork buns $11.99.3
  • When: lunch and dinner every day as of July 2026, with an extra hour at night on Friday and Saturday.2
  • Where: inside Grid City Beer Works, 333 West 2100 South, South Salt Lake.
