Post Office Place
Salt Lake Magazine puts the largest Japanese whisky selection in Utah behind this bar, and the way to drink it is to ask for a special delivery and let the bartender choose.
Why go
The bar sits at 16 West Market Street, next door to Takashi and under the same owner, and it took a James Beard Outstanding Bar semifinalist place in 2026 on its own account (James Beard Foundation). The small plates cross Peruvian and Japanese cooking, which is the same crossing Takashi Gibo's own life carries: he was born in Okinawa and lived in Peru until he was twelve.
Salt Lake Magazine's description is the fullest anybody has published: Post Office serves up craft cocktails, multicultural small plates, and the state's largest selection of Japanese whisky
(Salt Lake Magazine).
Jenny Willden's advice, in her write-up of the restaurant next door, is to come here for a Japanese whisky cocktail and some small plates while you wait for a Takashi table, since that room takes no reservation for a small group (The Infatuation).
Tommy Nguyen cooked here before he opened The Pearl (Gastronomic SLC).
I have not found a review of this bar by anybody. What is written above is what the standing and the directory say, and the cooking is unread.
Order this / avoid
- Order: a special delivery, which is the room's own name for handing the choice to the bartender.1
- Order: Japanese whisky, on Salt Lake Magazine's word about the depth of the list.1
- Avoid: treating it only as somewhere to stand while Takashi fills up. The Beard nod is this room's, not next door's.

Good to know
- Booking: none recorded. It trades as a bar.
- Where: 16 West Market Street. Takashi is at number 18. Separate rooms, one owner.
- Omakase: the bar's own site advertises omakase nights weekly.
Verdict
could-visit — A James Beard Outstanding Bar semifinalist in 2026 with what Salt Lake Magazine calls the largest Japanese whisky selection in the state, and the place Jenny Willden tells you to drink while you wait for a table at Takashi next door. I have not found a published review of it anywhere I can read, so what is written here is the whisky, the standing and the address, and not a word about how the small plates taste.
