Angler
Joe Hou is the chef de cuisine at Angler, which holds One MICHELIN Star in the 2026 California selection. It comes from Saison Hospitality, the group behind Saison, the two-star room the same guide lists across town.
Why go
A wood-burning hearth runs the length of the open kitchen, and the cooks work it all service. The guide files the look of the place as a hunter's cabin gone Nordic, and the windows give you the bay. Its inspector also points you at the wine list.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the embered oysters, with the smoked chili butter.1
- Order: the aged black cod, with the Parker House rolls and seaweed butter beside it. The potatoes under taleggio are the other side.1
- Order: the soft-serve sundae to finish.1
What locals & experts say
- The MICHELIN inspector, 2026 California selection:
a radicchio salad so formidable that it calls for a bib and a steak knife
.1 - Angler, on its own page:
Our sourcing is deliberate. Every dish is touched by fire and intended to be shared.

Good to know
- When: lunch Tuesday through Saturday, dinner every day.2
- Price: the guide prices this $$$$.1
- Where: 132 The Embarcadero, on the waterfront.
Verdict
should-visit — Ask for a table where you can see the hearth. The house takes an annual winter closure over the first week of January, so a New Year trip needs checking first.
