Che Fico
A fire that started in the chimney next door on 11 June 2026 shut this room, and David Nayfeld says he will rebuild. He and Matt Brewer opened it on Divisadero in 2018. The name is Italian slang, roughly "how cool", literally "what a fig". The venue's booking page is still live; the room is not.
Why go
The kitchen cures its own salumi and pulls its own mozzarella. A wood-fired oven does most of the rest. Charred broccolini with pecorino sardo and Calabrian chili comes off it, and so does a whole roasted branzino. The pizzas come out puffy and blistered. One carries pineapple, red onion and fermented chili.2
Julia Chen reviewed it for The Infatuation. Her advice is to order strategically. Two of you take a glass of wine each, a couple of starters, a pizza and a pasta, and it comes to about $175. Her advice is to stick to the parmesan-dusted sourdough pies. The small plates are the other safe ground.
The restaurant's own line on the kitchen is that this is our vision of Northern California as if it is a region in Italy.

Order this / avoid
- Order: the supplí. Fried risotto with fontina inside, two bites each.
- Order: the Ananas pizza. The kitchen cuts the pineapple so thin you can barely see it against the sauce.
- Order: the polenta as a side. Chen calls it one of the best things on the menu.
- Avoid: the mozzarella fresca. Chen found it underseasoned and chewy, and ciabatta with it is $6 more.3
What locals & experts say
- The Infatuation SF (Julia Chen, February 2026), 7.8:
Pasta dishes are perfectly pleasant, though overall portions are, as our server diplomatically put it, conservative.
3 The Infatuation is owned by JPMorgan Chase. - David Nayfeld to the San Francisco Chronicle, the day after the fire:
We sustained significant damage but, thanks to the @sffdpio the building was saved.

could-visit — Do not turn up. Via Aurelia is the same team and is still cooking, so send the evening there.
