Humphry Slocombe (One Ferry Building #8)
Jake Godby and Sean Vahey opened Humphry Slocombe in the Mission in 2008. Secret Breakfast is what people came for: Jim Beam bourbon and cornflake cookie in a vanilla base. Nine shops trade now. This is the Ferry Building counter.
Why go
MacKenzie Chung Fegan and Cesar Hernandez ranked 29 Ferry Building vendors in July 2026 and put this counter at No. 22. Paolo Bicchieri keeps Humphry Slocombe on Eater's ice cream map. The house sundae is built on SF Fog, an Earl Grey ice cream with marshmallow fluff swirled through it. More fluff and bourbon caramel go on top. The original Harrison Street parlor closed on 30 October 2024. This counter and one other are what is left in the city.
Order this / avoid
- Order: Secret Breakfast, once, so you know what the argument is about.
- Order: whatever the current collaboration flavor is.
- Avoid: Harrison Street. The original shut in October 2024.
What locals & experts say
- MacKenzie Chung Fegan and Cesar Hernandez, San Francisco Chronicle, July 2026: at almost twenty years old Humphry Slocombe is
no longer the Bay Area standard bearer of ice cream innovation.
2 - Paolo Bicchieri, Eater SF, updated June 2025:
The Ferry Building is an excellent location to sample Humphry's wares.

Verdict
could-visit — One scoop is enough and nothing needs booking. If the queue is out the door, the Berkeley and Oakland counters pour the same tubs.
