Neighbor Bakehouse
Lani Conway picks the raspberry hazelnut twice-baked croissant here. Patrick Wong rates the savory one, filled with glistening barbecue pork, among The Infatuation's favorites in San Francisco. The guide credits that pastry to Sunday Bakeshop. The same kitchen tied for fifth in the Chronicle's blind sourdough tasting in March 2026, at $9 a loaf.
Why go
That loaf is the surprise. Mario Cortez found it well hydrated, mild and nutty, under a thin crisp crust. Elena Kadvany, tasting beside him, found a light airy interior under a well-charred crust. It did not shred her mouth, which is the trade most hard-baked breads make you accept.2
The lamination is what the queue is for. Wong sends readers to the almond croissant, which oozes frangipane through every bite. He adds a banana bostock, soft and cakey under caramelized banana slices.1 Lani Conway's Dogpatch pick is the raspberry hazelnut twice-baked croissant. The same counter carries kimchi toast and German coffee cake.5 Cross the city and you meet the work anyway. The croissants at Wrecking Ball in Cow Hollow came from here when Julia Chen wrote it up in 2024.6
Chen's savory-croissant guide credits the char siu croissant sold here to Oakland's Sunday Bakeshop. Neighbor carries that range while the Oakland kitchen is shut.4 Paper Son runs an attached window for coffee and tea. I have not found a source that names who bakes here.
