Parachute Bakery
Nasir Armar came to this Ferry Building counter off two-star Saison and out of his father's bakery in India. He opened it in September 2025. The croissant is his canvas. A butter one runs $6.50 and a wagyu pastrami Reuben $12. In early summer he stacks a cube with chamomile and yogurt cream and diced strawberries.
Why go
The Reuben is the one to argue about. Dianne de Guzman found the pastry stayed flaky and crunchy under the fill, which croissant sandwiches usually do not. The pastrami comes brined and salted, with sharp mustard, Gruyere and sauerkraut cutting through the layers.1
Armar changes the flavors with the season. Early summer 2026 brought the strawberry cube and grilled asparagus with ricotta. Julia Chen has eaten a vanilla-passion fruit cube with white chocolate cremeux, and a pain suisse served warm and oozing garlic bechamel.3
The bakery is one of two Ferry Building rooms from the Sorrel team. The other is Arquet, Alex Hong's restaurant in the old Slanted Door space. You can see into it through the east windows.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the wagyu pastrami Reuben croissant, $12 in June 2026. De Guzman calls it a lunch in itself.
- Order: the strawberries and cream cube, $9 in June 2026, when the strawberries are on.
- Order: the black sesame and yuzu cookie, $8. The sesame lands first and the yuzu comes up behind it.
- Order: the twice-baked almond croissant. Chen finds
a wafer-thin crunch, seemingly endless airy layers, and an overflow of frangipane that oozes out in each bite.
2 - Order: the pain au chocolat, $7.75. De Guzman reports that the dough wraps its chocolate batons into a churro shape rather than laying them flat.1
- Avoid: arriving late and expecting the specials.
What locals & experts say
- Dianne de Guzman, Eater SF, June 2026: Armar's
laminated pastries are swoon- and praise-worthy,
and she puts his lamination style close to Cedric Grolet's.1 - Julia Chen, The Infatuation, carries Parachute on both her thirteen best croissants in San Francisco and her twenty-five best bakeries.3
I have not found a Chronicle review of this one.
Good to know
