Carolyn Jung won a James Beard Award for feature writing about restaurants and chefs, a Columbia Journalism School award of excellence for diversity writing, and first-place honors from the Association of Food Journalists and the Peninsula Press Club; she was an IACP finalist for narrative food writing in 2015. For eleven years she was the food writer and editor of the San Jose Mercury News, which makes her the longest-serving South Bay food desk anyone can name. She has written for the San Francisco Chronicle, Gourmet, Wine Spectator and Edible Silicon Valley, and she wrote San Francisco Chef's Table (2013) and East Bay Cooks (2019). Her blog Food Gal, running since 2008, took second place for Best Food Blog in the nation from the Association of Food Journalists in 2009.
