ACORN Winery
Field blends: mixed plantings picked and co-fermented together, blended from the day they come off the vine. Bill and Betsy Nachbaur founded it in 1990 and sold the brand in 2023.1
Why go
Melissa Moholt-Siebert, who founded and owns Ancient Oak winery, bought ACORN from the Nachbaurs in 2023 and still makes the wine off their Alegria vineyard and other family-farmed field-blend sites in the Russian River Valley.1 The method is the old one: a vineyard planted to several varieties at once, picked at once and fermented together, so the blending happens in the row rather than in a tank.1 Nothing on the current site says where or whether you can taste it.
Order this / avoid
- Order: any of the field blends. That is the whole label.1
- Avoid: driving to Old Redwood Highway on this entry. I could not establish that a tasting room is open there.
Good to know
- The domain moved. acornwinery.com now redirects to acorn.wine, and the old address serves an expired certificate.1
- The pin was saved in 2017, six years before the brand changed hands.
Verdict
listed — Care about the wine and be careful about the door. ACORN makes field blends: mixed plantings picked and co-fermented together, blended in the vineyard rather than the cellar, off the Nachbaurs' Alegria vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Bill and Betsy Nachbaur founded it in 1990 and sold the brand in 2023 to Melissa Moholt-Siebert of Ancient Oak, so a pin saved in 2017 points at a business that has changed hands. Nothing on the current site publishes a tasting room, so look for the label rather than plan a visit.
