Agave Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar
Molotes, tasajo and chapulines on a Healdsburg menu, ten to nine daily with a patio. Those are Oaxacan dishes and they are not standard around here.1
Why go
The restaurant's own list of what it is known for runs enmoladas, molotes, tasajo, chapulines, chicken mole, ceviche tostada and cafe de olla, with Oaxacan food as a stated category.1 That is a regional kitchen sitting inside a cantina that also does a burrito bowl. There is outdoor seating, a tequila list and a vegetarian section.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the enmoladas, which the kitchen puts first on its own list.1
- Order: the molotes or the tasajo, which is the Oaxacan half of the menu.1
- Avoid: the testimonials on the website. Three first names, five stars each, no source.
Good to know
- Open 10am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 8pm on Sunday.1
- Takeout, delivery and catering all run through the restaurant's own site.1
- No prices are published on the page I read.
Verdict
could-visit — The interesting thing about Agave is buried in its own tag list: molotes, tasajo, chapulines and enmoladas, filed under Oaxacan food. Those are not standard on a Healdsburg cantina menu and they are worth ordering over the burrito bowl. Open ten to nine most days with a patio and a tequila list, which makes it the practical family option in a town where dinner usually means a reservation. Held here because everything else on the restaurant's page is boilerplate, the dishes come from tags rather than a menu I could price, and nothing published about the kitchen turned up in anything I read.
