Alexander Valley Vineyards
Cyrus Alexander's homestead, in the valley named after him, with a 48,000-square-foot cave underneath. Twenty dollars for four estate wines at the bar.1
Why go
The Wetzel family has made estate-grown, estate-bottled wine here since 1975, and the two names people know are Sin Zin and CYRUS.1 The cave is the reason to book something more than a bar flight: 48,000 square feet cut underground, with a tour that explains the barrel-ageing programme.1 The winery calls CYRUS the First Growth of Sonoma, which is its own claim and not anyone else's.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Estate Tasting Flight, $20 for four estate wines at the bar.1
- Order: the Immersive Wine Cave Tour & Tasting, $45, which takes up to twenty people.1
- Order: the Experience Cabernet Sauvignon flight, $45, if you want to know whether the winery's Cabernets actually differ from each other. That is the question it is built around.1
- Avoid: planning to walk in. Everything on the platform is a prepaid reservation.1
Good to know
- The vineyard hike is $85 and tastes the wines where the grapes grow.1
- Two alcohol-free options exist: a $20 botanical flight, and the cheese and cookie pairings both come in alcohol-free versions.1
- Dated events: a harvest celebration on 12 September 2026 at $120, a Fall Estate Garden Luncheon on 3 October 2026 at $95, and a CYRUS dinner in the cave on 13 March 2027.1
Verdict
could-visit — The winery stands on Cyrus Alexander's homestead, in the valley named after him, and the top Cabernet carries his name. The Wetzel family has made estate-grown and bottled wine here since 1975 and Sin Zin is the label people know. There is a 48,000-square-foot cave under it and the tour through it is $45 with a tasting, while a straight estate flight at the bar is $20. Two of the pairings come in alcohol-free versions, which is rarer here than it should be. Held low because the winery's own site serves a bot challenge, so everything above comes off a booking platform and nobody's verdict on the wine could be read.
