Bartholomew Estate Winery
Frank and Antonia Bartholomew bought this land in 1943 and discovered Agoston Haraszthy's house and original winery on it. They left the whole 375 acres to a foundation, and the park is free to walk.1
Why go
The Bartholomews spent nearly fifty years here, restoring the historic buildings and replanting vineyards that had lain dormant for decades, and three wineries operated on the property in that time.1 The winery trading under this name opened in April 2019, in a mission-style building put up in 1922, formed by Anna Pope as Co-Trustee of the Bartholomew Foundation with winemaker Kevin Holt.1 The park and the winery are both owned by the Foundation, and every dollar the winery earns goes into keeping the hiking and picnic trails open for nothing.1 You can taste indoors or up on the Oak Knoll, above the vineyards.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Estate Wine Tasting, and take the Oak Knoll version if the weather holds. Same wines, better ground.2
- Avoid: rushing it. The 375-acre park is free and is half the reason the place exists.1
Good to know
- Antonia Bartholomew's Legacy Vineyard Tour & Tasting runs $95 and follows her replanting of the estate.2
- The tasting with a grazing board is $85, and the charcuterie comes from a local salumeria the booking page names and the extract cut off.2
- The Harvest Celebration is 4 October 2026, 2 to 4pm, $80.2
- I could not find a base tasting price. Neither the winery's page nor the booking platform prints one.
Verdict
could-visit — Frank and Antonia Bartholomew bought this land in 1943 and found out it was the middle of Agoston Haraszthy's rancho, with his house and his original winery still on it. They left it to a foundation, and today the park and the winery are both owned by that foundation, 375 acres open to walk for nothing, with every dollar the winery makes going back into it. Anna Pope and winemaker Kevin Holt opened the current winery in April 2019 in a 1922 mission-style building. Held here because nobody has published on the wine and no base tasting price is on the record.
