Roche Winery Downtown
Roche pours on a porch over Sonoma Plaza, with a shaded garden behind it, from a family that has farmed here since 1982. The barrels are at the other door.1
Why go
Roche runs two rooms. This is the one on the square, indoor and outdoor bars, a porch that looks straight at the plaza and a garden patio out back that takes dogs.1 The winery proper is south of town at 22097A Bonness Road, inside the family's own Tipperary Vineyards, and that is where the daily barrel tastings and the fireplaces on the shaded tasting patio are.1 Michael Carr makes the wine.1 I have not found a published note on any of these bottles, so I have none to point you at.
Order this / avoid
- Avoid: coming here for the barrel tasting or the tour. Both are at Bonness Road.1
Good to know
- No fee or hours are posted, so call before you plan around it.
Verdict
listed — Come here for a glass before lunch or before dinner and nothing more: a porch onto Sonoma Plaza, a shaded garden that takes dogs, and the shops and hotels a few steps away. Skip it if you want the barrel tasting, which happens at the other door out on Bonness Road inside the family's Tipperary Vineyards. Michael Carr makes the wine and the family has farmed here since 1982. I have not found a published note on a single bottle.
