The Beverage People - Fermenter's Warehouse
Eleven ferments on the list, and olives, vinegar and cheese are three of them. Open Mondays during harvest, which tells you who shops here.1
Why go
Most homebrew shops sell you beer kit and wine kit and stop. This one lists winemaking, cider, brewing, olives, vinegar, cheese, meadmaking, spirits, kombucha and kefir, sparkling drinks and fermented food.1 Olives and vinegar and cheese in the same building means somebody there thinks about brine and acid as well as sugar, which is the useful kind of shop. It calls itself a fermentation supply warehouse for craft production, and the Monday opening runs only through harvest.1 I could not get past the front page through our route, so what is actually on the shelves I cannot tell you.
Order this / avoid
- Avoid: a Sunday run, and a late Saturday one. It shuts at 3 on Saturdays.1
Good to know
- Hours: Monday to Friday 10 to 5.30, Saturday 10 to 3. Mondays are a harvest-season addition.1
- You can book a phone appointment rather than queue at the counter.1
Verdict
could-visit — Eleven ferments on one shelf list is the reason this is here: winemaking, cider, brewing, olives, vinegar, cheese, mead, spirits, kombucha and kefir, sparkling drinks and fermented food. Most homebrew shops stop at beer and wine, and olives and vinegar and cheese in the same building means somebody there knows about salt and acidity as well as sugar. It opens Mondays during harvest, which is the tell of a shop that serves people actually crushing fruit. The rung is could-visit because the site returns navigation only through our route, so what is on those shelves is unknown, and nobody outside the shop has written about it.
