Twofish Baking
Sticky buns with caramel and walnuts, and the bakery says they are what put it on the map in 2003. Now inside the historic Stewart's Point Store, with a tap room the size of a cupboard.1
Why go
Highway 1 north of Jenner runs a long way with very little on it, and this building has a bakery, a market and an eatery in it.1 They bake the bread and the pastry every day, and there is real espresso.1 The eatery side runs breakfast burritos with scrambled egg, roasted potatoes, cheese and house salsa, sandwiches on the bakery's own bread, scratch soups, calzones and salads.1 The market side sells wine and beer for a picnic, along with candy and work by local artists.1 And there is the Twofish Tiny Tap Room, which is exactly what it sounds like.1
Order this / avoid
- Order: a sticky bun. Big, caramel, walnut, and the thing the bakery is known for.1
- Order: a breakfast burrito if you are driving on. Egg, roasted potatoes, cheese, house salsa, wrapped warm.1
- Order: a cinnamon knot or the almond-cream puff pastry, which they call a bear claw shape without the pretension.1
Good to know
- The bakery is inside the Stewart's Point Store, which is its own listing on this site and the same front door.1
- Grab the picnic here. Wine and beer are on the shelves.1
- No prices are published, and nobody outside the building has written about the baking.
Verdict
could-visit — Stewart's Point is a wide spot on Highway 1 with almost nothing on it, and this is the reason to stop. Twofish has been baking since 2003 and says the sticky buns, caramel and walnut and large, are what made its name. Bread and pastry come out daily, the burritos are made to order with roasted potatoes and house salsa, the soups are from scratch and there is a tap room the size of a cupboard. The bakery now trades inside the historic Stewart's Point Store, so the market shelves and the picnic beer are in the same room. The rung is could-visit because nobody outside the building has written about any of it and no prices are published.
