Asador at Las Perlas
Griddled tacos from the original Asador truck, parked at the back of the Las Perlas mezcal bar on East Seventh and running until midnight.
Good to know
- Which Asador this is: the operator runs three downtown locations, The Grackle, Rainey Street and this one. The Rainey Street room at 88 1/2 Rainey is a different door and nothing about it belongs here.1
- Where: 405 East 7th Street, on the patio behind the Las Perlas mezcal bar. The saved list files this under Rainey Street, which is the sibling room's address, not this one.1
- Timing: open 7 days a week, 4pm to midnight. It is built for the hour after the bars.2
- What the reviewer says: The Infatuation scored it 7.8 and went back sober to check.
They’re far better than they need to be, and for that we’re extremely grateful.
1 - Hygiene, and why there is no number: this is a truck, and mobile food vendors are not in the Austin Public Health inspection dataset at all, which is missing data rather than a finding.3
- Not this business: Seven Grand holds the permit at 405 East 7th, and Asador on Rainey holds its own at the other door. Neither record is this truck's.3
Verdict
could-visit — The original Asador truck, parked at the back of the Las Perlas mezcal bar on East Seventh, griddling tacos for a post-bar crowd from 4pm to midnight, seven days. The city's reviewer scored it 7.8 and said the tacos are far better than they need to be, which for a downtown late-night truck is the whole recommendation. This is not the Rainey Street Asador and not the one at The Grackle. No public inspection score exists, because trailers are not in the Austin register at all.
