Comedor
The bone marrow tacos come out as giant slabs of roasted marrow bone under pecan gremolata, over a bed of greens, with warm corn tortillas to build them yourself.1
Why go
Nicolai McCrary scored it 8.2 for The Infatuation and calls the marrow taco the signature and an essential part of the order. It is fatty and decadent, with enough lime and greens behind it to make each bite damn near perfect.

The rest of the menu is shared plates that rotate. Usually a crudo starts, and grilled carrots come under an earthy mole with fresh basil. MICHELIN lists it as Recommended. That came in the inaugural 2024 Texas selection.2
Order this / avoid
- Order the bone marrow tacos, then whatever crudo is running that week. McCrary has had it in a fermented turmeric broth and in a burnt allium dressing, which tells you the kitchen keeps rebuilding the dish.1
- Drink in this order: sotol or tequila first, then work into the mezcals, which is McCrary's own sequence.1 For one built drink, the Comedor Martini runs gin, crema mezcal and jalapeno tequila, with yellow chartreuse and blanc vermouth carrying the sweetness. It is spirit-forward and lightly spicy, so put it before the food.
- Avoid: ordering the whole table at once and hoping it lands evenly. Some dishes shine more than others, and McCrary's calibration is that they rarely fail.1
What locals & experts say
- Nicolai McCrary rated it 8.2 for The Infatuation, page-dated 8 October 2025. He frames it against the upscale Mexican rooms Austin already has, Fonda San Miguel, Suerte and La Condesa, and still lands here:
when you want to impress a date, or show off your new pair of light-up sneakers, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better spot than Comedor.
1 - MICHELIN Guide Texas, 2024, inaugural selection: Recommended, in the same Austin round that gave seven one-stars and fourteen Bib Gourmands. No star, no Bib.2
Good to know
- Where it is: 501 Colorado Street, downtown.1
- Format: shared small plates, evening service only, and a reservation is sensible for a table. I haven't found published hours, so check the day you go.1
- Hygiene: Austin Public Health holds four routine inspections, 78 on 15 April 2026, 83 on 19 September 2024, 86 on 1 March 2024 and 77 on 30 August 2023. Nothing is below 70, so nothing here is a failing finding under the City of Austin scheme, where 70 is the pass line and below 50 forces an immediate closure. The last three results do run downward.3
Verdict
should-visit — Book a table and start on the drinks, because the agave list is the part of this room you work through slowly. Order in two rounds, marrow and crudo first, and let what arrives decide the rest. Do not bring a group of eight, because the plates are small.
