Burapa
The family behind Sri Trat cooks the eastern seaboard's larder, cha muang leaves, crab roe, cardamom shoots, in a Sukhumvit Soi 11 room styled after an Eastern and Oriental Express carriage, with a bar floor doing cocktails above.
Why go
Eastern Thai is the region Bangkok menus skip. This kitchen treats it as a repertoire, not a garnish. BK Magazine's review of the opening run said "Almost everything we ordered from the novella-sized menu hit the mark," singling out the red curry with crab meat, roe and pumpkin. Time Out's April 2026 update says the room "has built a following for its unapologetically bold eastern Thai flavours" and now runs daily with B550 lunch sets "plated with a lighter, modern touch." Michelin holds it at Bib Gourmand.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the red curry with crab, roe and pumpkin (B300 at BK's review), the sea bass larb with cardamom shoots and dill, and a pork curry with cha muang, the sour leaf that signs Trat cooking.
- Avoid: hunting for it in Thonglor, where Jeff's seed points; the address is 26 Sukhumvit Soi 11. And resist over-ordering, since BK notes the portions are sized to let a small table cover more of the menu.
What locals & experts say
- BK Magazine (January 2020): the rooms
resemble Eastern and Oriental Express carriages,
and the food delivered:Almost everything we ordered from the novella-sized menu hit the mark.
1 - Time Out Bangkok (April 2026, Kaweewat Siwanartwong):
has built a following for its unapologetically bold eastern Thai flavours.
2 - Michelin Guide Thailand: Bib Gourmand; the guide pages 403 on fetch, and secondary reprints place it on the 2023 list, so the exact year run stays unpinned.3
Good to know
- Timing: daily 11am to 11pm (Time Out, April 2026); the B550 lunch set runs 11am to 2pm.
- Booking: recommended for dinner; the carriage rooms are small and the bar floor absorbs the wait.
- Getting there: Sukhumvit Soi 11 off BTS Nana; sibling Sri Trat sits in Phrom Phong if you want the mother version of the same repertoire.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "bib gourmand"
- The note: Bib Gourmand; eastern Thai with a bar bent.
Verdict
should-visit — Trat-province cooking, cha muang leaves, wild-caught crab curries, cardamom-shoot larb, served by the family behind Sri Trat in a room built like an Eastern and Oriental Express carriage with a real bar attached. BK found nearly everything on the menu landing, Michelin gave it a Bib, and eastern Thai remains the region Bangkok menus skip. That regional scarcity plus a working cocktail floor is the detour case.
