Why go
Time Out filed it under the city's late-night essentials: "This market is heaven for night owls as there is everything for everyone. If you want to eat, there are plenty of restaurants, mostly serving spicy Isaan food in an air-conditioned space." The street doubles as the center of Bangkok's newest Chinese quarter; Coconuts reported in 2018 that Pracharat Bamphen "has become the home and workplace of many Chinese people," which layered mainland noodle shops and hotpot over the Thai stalls. The result is a genuinely local eating street that stays lit long after Yaowarat's tour groups go home.
Order this / avoid
- Order: whatever is charcoal-grilled or ladled late: Isaan chicken and som tam from the shophouses, rice-and-curry, fish congee, and khao tom as the post-midnight closer.
- Avoid: a daytime visit. The strip is shophouse trade before dark, and the market only becomes itself in the evening.

- Timing: evening until about 4am; the later it gets, the more local it feels.
- Booking: walk-in, cash, stall seating.
- Getting there: MRT Huai Khwang station exits onto the market corner at Ratchadaphisek, and the MRT runs until midnight; after that it is a taxi home, which is half the fun.
