K. Panich Sticky Rice
Since 1932 this Tanao Road shophouse has sold sticky rice from a recipe Time Out traces to the owner's grandmother, who cooked in the royal kitchen under Rama V and VI, and the mango version is the only one in Bangkok's Bib Gourmand list.
Why go
The dish is engineered from the supply chain up: coconuts come from Chumphon, sticky rice from Chiang Rai, and the mangoes are Nam Dok Mai, the sweet cultivar the dessert was built for. Daniel Ang's judgment covers the execution: "Each element was well-executed, from the Chiang Mai-imported rice steamed to the right texture to the perfectly ripe Nam Dok Mai mangoes," and "the combination would almost melt in your mouth." Time Out counts seven consecutive years of Bib Gourmand recognition as of its May 2025 piece.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the mango sticky rice, about B100, and the B50 sticky rice with Thai custard as the sleeper; Daniel Ang rates the in-season durian version
soft with delicate sweetness.
- Avoid: expecting a dining room. It is a counter; buy, walk, and eat in the shade near the Giant Swing. And weigh the season, since Nam Dok Mai peaks roughly April to June and the dish lives or dies on the fruit.
What locals & experts say

1 - Michelin Guide Thailand: Bib Gourmand, held seven consecutive years per Time Out; the guide's own pages 403 on fetch, so the run is pinned by the press.3
- Local rec: Jeff's list: "multiple recs."
Good to know
- Timing: daily 7am to 5pm (Time Out, May 2025). Mango season is the move.
- Booking: walk-in takeaway; the line moves fast.
- Getting there: Tanao Road by Sao Chingcha, a five-minute walk from Krua Apsorn's Dinso Road room and the Jay Fai and Thipsamai corner; the natural dessert leg of an Old Town crawl. Sae Phun's chicken-stew shophouse sits on the same road.
Jeff's take (his words)
- Note: "mango sticky rice; multiple recs; bib gourmand"
- The note: Bib Gourmand; mango sticky rice; multiple recs.
Verdict
should-visit — Ninety-plus years on one dessert, a palace-kitchen recipe story, named supply provinces, and the only mango sticky rice in Bangkok's Bib Gourmand list. For B100 it is the definitive version of a canonical dish, five minutes from the Giant Swing cluster. It is a takeaway counter rather than a meal, which is exactly why it slots into any Old Town eating day.
