Chawp Pet Noi - Thai street food
The owners came back from a trip that ran from Chiang Rai to Krabi convinced the Southside had no real Thai food, and started out cooking regional dishes for delivery only.
Why go
Their own account is that the business grew out of eating their way through regional Thailand, from Chiang Rai in the North to Krabi in the South,
and coming home to a severe lack of authentic Thai restaurants in the south side of Glasgow
(Chawp Pet Noi). They started as a delivery service after working the recipes out. GlasgowWorld's line on where that landed is the useful one: the place offers an extensive menu, most of which most Glaswegians will have never even heard of, never mind tried
(GlasgowWorld). In a Thai kitchen that usually means regional cooking rather than the pad thai and green curry short list. It won Street Food Restaurant of the Year at the third Scottish Restaurant Awards in March 2024, in the same Glasgow sweep that took Damasqino the Middle Eastern category and Smokey Trotters Kitchen the Kitchen of the Year. The Food Hygiene Information Scheme registers it as a takeaway, so the format is order and go, from a unit at 1109 Pollokshaws Road with Godshot studio 34 doors up at 1143.
Order this / avoid
- Order: the Thai sweetcorn fritters, which GlasgowWorld's January 2026 Shawlands guide picks out and says are
made in house every day
2. Beyond that, take the dish you cannot identify, since the unfamiliar half of the menu is the reason the place gets written about. - Avoid: treating the 2024 award as a critical verdict. The Scottish Restaurant Awards is a nomination-and-vote programme run by Creative Oceanic rather than a critics' guide, and no Glasgow critic has reviewed this kitchen. Also avoid ordering at your usual heat level without asking, since a kitchen that learned its recipes in Chiang Rai is not seasoning for a British palate.
What locals & experts say
- Scottish Restaurant Awards 2024, third edition, Street Food Restaurant of the Year: as reported by the Scottish Daily Express on 20 March 2024,
south side spot Chawp Pet Noi won Street Food Restaurant of the Year,
announced at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow.1 - GlasgowWorld (Liam Smillie, June 2025), second of six Glasgow Thai restaurants:
the perfect pitstop for the Southsider looking to try something new.
3 - GlasgowWorld (Declan McConville, January 2026), second of 25 in Shawlands:
Discover authentic Thai street food at Chawp Pet Noi. Order the Thai sweetcorn fritters which are made in house every day.
2 - Chawp Pet Noi (own statement), on why it exists: the goal is to
transport the customers via taste, smell, look and texture all the way over to the narrow Bangkok Soi's.
Reported as the venue's own claim, not as a judgment.4 - The gap, stated: no critic has published a visit-based review. The Skinny, The List, Glasgowist, The Glasgow Bell, the Scotsman food desk, the Herald and the Glasgow Times were all searched without result, so every citation above is a round-up or an award rather than someone's assessment of a plate.
- Local rec: Jeff's save. He left no note on it.
Good to know
- Timing: no hours verified. The venue's own site is a JavaScript shell to our crawler and the ordering site sits behind a consent interstitial, so this needs a look by hand.
- Booking: walk in. It is registered as a takeaway and the seating is limited.
- Where: 1109 Pollokshaws Road, Shawlands, on the run toward Shawlands Cross. Godshot studio is at 1143 on the same side.
- Heat: ask before you order. The recipes were learned in Thailand and the seasoning follows.
- Hygiene: the Food Hygiene Information Scheme rates the address a Pass, inspected 2 February 2024.5
Verdict
could-visit — The owners ate their way from Chiang Rai to Krabi, came home to a Southside they judged to have no real Thai food, and started cooking regional dishes for delivery before taking a unit. It won Street Food Restaurant of the Year at the third Scottish Restaurant Awards in March 2024, and GlasgowWorld has ranked it twice since, second of six Glasgow Thai places in June 2025 and second of 25 Shawlands venues in January 2026, where the pick is the sweetcorn fritters made fresh daily. It is a takeaway with limited seating at 1109 Pollokshaws Road, holding a hygiene Pass. It stops at could-visit because the award is a vote rather than a verdict and no critic has published a word about the cooking.
